Welcome to the 4th Annual World Music and Independent Film Festival (WMIFF) 2013. WMIFF was established to celebrate and provide a platform of achievements for international cinema artists. Dedicated to building a global film community and supporting emerging filmmakers, WMIFF offers all selected artists exceptional exposure with an inclusive vibe that has won over alumni, attendees, and industry members alike. WMIFF festivities are open to all, featuring some of the most talented artists in both film and music.

The World Music and Independent Film Festival 2013 will kick off on Sunday, August 18, and continue through Saturday, August 24th. We are screening the top selected films at the National Navy Memorial Museum, 701 Penn Ave., NW, Washington, DC. This year’s Red Carpet Gala and Awards will be held on August 25th at the Washington Plaza Hotel, 10 Thomas Circle, NW, Washington, DC.

About The Festival

Established in 2010, WMIFF is an IMDB-qualifying international film festival held annually in Washington D.C, the third week of August. WMIFF is proud to showcase and recognize all global independent artists. The festival lasts seven days, emphasizing diverse talents.

For 2013, WMIFF’s introduction to new and unique categories will help it stand above all the others. We will offer a “New Directors Showcase”, which will be exclusive and limited to a director’s first feature-length film; a “Student/Emerging Filmmakers” category, which will be geared towards student filmmakers and music artists; a “Women in Film Showcase”; along with other special spotlights on the works of the South-East Asian origin. As a highlight of the World Music side of WMIFF in 2013, one of our new categories, which is making its debut in the International Film Festival circuit, is the “Best Male/Female Vocals” in Feature/Short Film in the South-East Asian category. At each festival, a number of awards are given out given by an international jury.

This week-long festival will include Gala opening and closing night celebrations, a festival centerpiece presentation, special spotlight on SouthEast Asia Films, international music videos, concluded with a Red Carpet Black Tie Gala Award Banquet held at the Washington Plaza Hotel.

The festival attracts celebrities, media journalists, civic and community leaders, film crews and film enthusiasts from around the globe, as well as the DC metropolitan area, which includes Virginia and Maryland.

In 2010 , 2011, and 2012, WMIFF wowed attendees and enthusiasts with award-winning musical performances along with special guest appearances with five Emmy, two Golden Globe, one Grammy and two times Oscar Nominee Carol Connors, Grammy Award Winner Newang Khechong, Emmy Award Winners David Lago and Merrie Lynn Ross, twice Grammy nominated Cicso Steele, Filmmaker Sanjay Arora, and Actress Dipti Mehta of “Life! Camera! Action!” fame, amongst others.
